MICHAEL Coleman, chairman of trustees, Age Concern Crediton, has issued the following: “In the light of advice from the government and the nature of our work and client base, we have had no alternative other than to close the Age Concern Crediton Day Centre.

“This means that the 10-12 elderly clients who normally are brought in by minibus and car from Crediton and the surrounding villages to spend the day with our supervisors and volunteers, including having a freshly-cooked lunch, are no longer able to do so.

“The Day Centre itself is still manned by our staff and is able to offer advice and information by telephone, but is not open to visitors (01363 775008).

“We have established a system whereby we shall be telephoning all clients, their families or carers on a daily basis to check on them, unless they decide to opt out.

“This gives the opportunity for human contact and conversation to those who might otherwise be lonely and isolated. We are also able to offer to shop for them and to deliver food and other things directly to them.

“Similarly, our Home Support service is still able to offer telephone advice (01363 777241), while our High Street shop (01363 774760) remains open for business, subject to circumstances.”
