CHERITON Fitzpaine was determined that, even though church services were curtailed, there should be some reminder of the season in the village.

Church Warden Alice May and local activist Becky Smith persuaded people whose windows abutted on the village street to decorate them with Advent scenes.

There was a slight twist, in that each window had a "boob" or intentional mistake.

Residents were encouraged to guess the error in each numbered window and to inform the organisers. There will be a prize for the correct guess.

Several people decorated trees and shrubs in their front gardens and lights shone everywhere. Walking down the street after dark was like being in fairyland.

Canon Hall kindly took a "Midnight Communion" in St Matthew’s at 10.30pm on Christmas Eve.
