ACTS of kindness and caring for others are proving to be a credit to the Crediton community

Volunteers are helping in so many areas to assist others that are social distancing, helping their neighbours or charities or businesses.

Some are shopping for others, or fetching essential things like prescriptions.

There are many individuals, groups and organisations which people can call upon and anyone in need of anything is urged to get in touch.

A simple telephone call is all that is needed in most cases.

The Hub, which is operating from an empty shop in Crediton High Street, is a great success. Many of the High Street businesses are taking part and the system is simple.

Anyone can telephone a list of participating shops and place an order for whatever it might be, and pay by card over the telephone or by cash when the items are delivered or collected.

Volunteers support the service by running The Hub or delivering the items, following procedures of safe delivery and leaving the order on the doorstep. Cash collections can be left in a bag or envelope for the shop or business.

A full list of the shops taking part can be found on the website: shopcrediton.co.uk .

Many other businesses are also operating in their own way and it is advised to make contact in the first instance by telephone.

Church groups and others are shopping for those who need it.

Many groups, organisations and individuals in the Crediton area and further afield were pleasantly surprised at the generosity and compassion shown by the Morrisons store in Crediton, which, through its Community Champion Hazel Evely, delivered Easter eggs as a pleasant gift.

In addition the Crediton Morrisons store has been actively supporting Crediton Foodbank with weekly deliveries of food. In addition the store supplied 250 Easter eggs for staff at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital in Exeter through Exeter Communities Together CIC, which also received food for food parcels for those in need.

The Crediton Tesco store and others have also donated generously to Crediton Foodbank.

At this difficult time it is heartwarming that so many people are helping others.
