‘A Village in Flowers’ exhibition raised £1,007 for Cheriton Fitzpaine church

THE Friends of St Matthew’s Church at Cheriton Fitzpaine held a wonderful Flower Festival over the weekend of May 12 to 14.

There were no less than 23 superb floral art arrangements all depicting the theme of “A Village in Flowers”.

Organised by church warden, Alice May and the Friends, the exhibits included a red, white and blue piece representing the Cross Channel Ferry by Geraldine de Sancha for the village Twinning Association.

The local Brownies display showed flower-filled shoes and details of their recent activities.

The Allotment Society placed a wooden seat in their corner with lots of vegetables and a pair of wellington Boots!

The People’s Choice winner was the Cheriton Carnival display, a colourful miniature float filled with flowers entitled “Road to Rio”, and pulled by a hand-made tractor, decorated by Andrew Dean - a very worthy winner! There was also a demonstration of Lace Making.

Refreshments and light lunches were served and the weekend event raised £1,007 for the church fabric and maintenance fund.

Alice May said she was most grateful to everyone who attended and all the helpers and that they will be doing it again next year.
