CREDITON firefighters held a second car wash in aid of The Firefighters’ Charity on Sunday, February 11 and a very special customer went along.

It was a great meeting between four-year-old Thomas and the firefighters who had assisted the ambulance service with Thomas’ birth during a home birth.

Thomas’ father Alan took along his car to be cleaned and they were able to meet the Crediton Fire Co-Responders Mark and Rory who were first on the scene before Thomas was born.

Crediton firefighters are supporting their Station Watch Manager Neil Hargreaves with his fundraising for The Firefighters’ Charity.

Neil will be running the London Marathon on Sunday, April 21 in aid of the charity.

Neil, a fitness adviser with Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service (DSFRS), and fellow crew based at Crediton, previously held at successful car wash at Crediton Fire Station on Saturday, February 3.

There was a steady stream of people who went along to have their cars washed for a donation to the charity on both days.

Unfortunately many of the volunteer fire crew washing cars had to leave to attend a persons reported road traffic accident during the first car wash.

Before the start of the car wash on Sunday, the crew also had another incident to attend.

Neil explained: “We now have an official total raised for The Firefighters’ Charity over the two car washes, a huge £1,216.

“Thank you to everyone who came and supported us with their kind donations and we look forward to seeing you again as we are planning another car wash for the end of March.”

Neil is hoping to attract business support in the form of donations towards the charity and also of prizes towards a bumper raffle.
