DAVID Gruncell was inducted into the Rotary Club of Crediton by President Jill Swain following a short introductory speech by Past President Peter Bailey, a well-known local farmer.
David was born at South Zeal and after leaving school at the age of 141/2 he joined the Army at 15 in the Royal Signals.
Much of his career has been in defence intelligence as an "Arabist" in the Middle East.
David retired at 55 after 40 years service achieving the rank of Colonel.
Not content to relax in retirement he is now a security consultant, though at heart a countryman he owns a flock of sheep and has a deep love of the countryside, which he shares with his wife Mary.
