PAPIER mache models of food made from old copies of the “Crediton Courier” feature in the new Crediton Museum exhibition “Christmas at the Museum”, which will open later this month.

Highly skilled Crediton Museum members have worked hard to create an impressive Christmas feast from the old newspapers.

It includes a turkey, ham, Christmas pudding, pie, Christmas cake and other items as part of a Victorian Dinner table with all the Christmas fare.

The exhibition looks at the origins of our traditions such as: Who invented the Christmas Cracker?; Why do we sing Carols at Christmas? and Why did people go "agooding" in Crediton?

The Victorians were important to many of our current traditions so there is a Victorian Lady and her daughter by their Christmas tree and a Victorian Dinner table with Christmas fare.

Devon traditions and photographs of Crediton festivities, provided by the "Courier" and local people, are also included alongside more recent traditions such as Christmas Number Ones and Santa Runs.

For the children there are quizzes, a Scavenger Hunt and "Post a letter to Santa".

The exhibition by Crediton History and Museum Society at The Old Town Hall, Crediton, is open during half-term week on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, October 28, 29 and 30, between 10am and 4pm. There will be further opportunities to see the exhibits later in November and throughout December.
