CREDITON Library held the most colourful day of the year on Saturday, May 27, to celebrate Elmer Day.

Children enjoyed a range of Elmer related colouring sheets and puzzles as well as a bingo trail throughout the half-term week.

There was also an Elmer the Patchwork Elephant colouring competition with two age groups.

Iris Haegele (5) who was in Crediton during half-term, came first in the five and under age group and won an Elmer book, a set of crayons and some stickers. Her prize was collected by her grandmother, Sue Brown, as Iris had gone back home to London.

Arthur Cockram (6) was delighted to come first in the six and over age group.

He won an Elmer reading book, colouring book, a stationery set and stickers.

His mum, Carol Bergin said: “Arthur was so excited to win.

“He put a lot of work into his colouring and followed the colours exactly from a picture of Elmer.”

There were three judges, two were members of staff at the library and one was a Duke of Edinburgh Award volunteer. They found it a hard decision but all three picked exactly the same two winners.

Library supervisor, Sue Lee said: “I would like to thank The Reading Agency and Andersen Press for donating the prizes - they were very unexpected.”
