THE badminton season is now well under-way and it is good to see some new people coming along to join the club. We hope that they are enjoying the friendly atmosphere and continue to do so for a long time.

Queens Badminton Development Officers are continuing to spend a lot of time working with local schools and identifying the vast pool of talent that exists, which is a real driving force behind the interest shown and the number of people who join the club.

As the season has progressed, there have been some notable successes for Queens in tournaments that have taken place. One recent tournament was the Devon County Adult restricted tournament in which the following results were achieved.

Men's Singles – Russell Walker was the winner and Simon Brassington reached the quarter-finals.

Ladies Singles – Hannah Preece reached the semi-final with Sarah Preece reaching the quarter final.

Men's Doubles – Russell Walker and Jamie Robertson were the runners up, Ian Kirby and Kevin Cobbledick reached the semi-finals whilst Simon Brassington reached the quarter final.

Ladies Doubles – Sarah Preece and Jackie Soffe won the plate. Hannah Preece and Susie Colewell were the runners-up and Gina Sawyer reached the quarter-finals.

Mixed Doubles – Sarah Preece and Russell Walker reached the semi-finals, whilst Gina Sawyer and Kevin, Hannah Preece and Darren Frisby and also Susie Colewell all reached the quarter-finals.

Another tournament which took place on October 22 was the East Devon Junior Badminton League, which was held at the Chulmleigh Leisure Centre.

Queens took a large team along, in fact the team and their supporters was by far the largest contingent of the six teams that were taking part!

The players who took part were: Scott Chudley, Ben Metherell, Ben Meakin, Toby Hatchell, Tom Mahoney, Sam Hatchell, Jem Fawsett, George Guthrie, Rowan Manning, Jacob Molfault, Belinda Dawe, Emily Hussey, Ben Hussey, Liam Tucker, Jamie Raymond, Dan Richards,, Nick Jones, Georgia Steer, Ollie Berry, Callum Parker, Joe Evans, Ryan Fawsett and Dylan Everett.

Finally, I would like to say a very big "thank you" to Jenny Maddison, Jon Scase and Nick Masson who organised and ran the day for Queens it is very much appreciated. Also a big "thank you" to all the parents who came along to support everyone. You all made it a day to remember.
