THE Friends of Crediton Library (FOCL) held their Annual General Meeting on Monday, February 25 at the library.

Chair’s Report

It was a busy and successful year for the Friends and only possible due to the stalwart support of a regular group of active supporters and committee members. During the 2018/19 winter programme four very successful presentations have been held so far, including one by Chris Chapman who will be returning to Crediton Library on April 2 for a Hope Lilian Bourne event, sponsored by Charlesworth Nicholl Solicitors.

Purchases

The Friends have supported Crediton Library activities with a number of minor donations and purchases, together with expenditure to increase membership and email contacts of the Friends Group.

The Outdoor Project

The group is planning to undertake a major fundraising challenge to raise money for improving and extending the outdoor patio area to make it more accessible for community use.

Recruitment of Members and Supporters

As a result of the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation the Friends lost email contact with a large number of members. FoCL has increased publicity in the local press and on social media, which has gone some way to restoring the membership base. The formation of a full and active regular committee membership is also an obvious prerequisite for the future success of the Friends of Crediton Library.

Treasurer’s Report

The Friends have had a very busy, successful year and are grateful to many people for their financial support. The Friends have been able to purchase items to help with the running of the library, including a dispensing thermos flask for events and a toy basket for the children’s area.

Brief Outline of Plans for the Coming Year

The main requirement is to raise money for the outdoor area and to recruit more Friends. They welcome new members who wish to be more involved in their local community. Until a new Chair is appointed, existing core committee members will take it in turns to chair meetings.

The next AGM will be held on Monday, February 24, 2020.
