FIRE crews from Moretonhampstead and Chagford put out a grassland and hedge fire at Little Sentry, Moretonhampstead, this evening, Saturday, August 1.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Control Centre received several calls from 8.14pm reporting the fire in the field close to Moretonhampstead churchyard.

Firefighters used beaters, Scotty packs and one hose reel jet to put out the fire and two thermal imaging cameras to check the fire was out and locate hotspots.

The fire service reported that the fire was successfully extinguished and hot spots dampened down to prevent re-ignition.

It said approximately 100m x 40m of grassland and 4m of hedgerow was affected by the fire.

Crews left the scene about about 10.30pm and the service said that the cause is not determined at this time.
