CREDITON Police have issued advice following the recent issue where inappropriate parking resulted in a road closure in Crediton on April 28 after larger vehicles could not pass.
Crediton Neighbourhood Beat Manager Dan Armitage, said: “We have had recent incidents where vehicles have parked in an inappropriate or unsafe location, causing obstructions in the highway and requiring police attendance to resolve the issue, which was impacting on and inconveniencing numerous members of the community.
“Luckily the latest incident was resolved fairly quickly without police powers being used to remove the vehicles in question, after owners were contacted.

“Remember, if 'reasonable' attempts by police to contact the owners prove negative, then vehicles will be removed for ‘Obstructing the Highway’ and the owner will have to pay for the recovery and storage of the vehicle.
“Please be courteous and think of others when you park.
“Think about where you park your vehicle(s) being appropriate/safe for other road users and pedestrians and whether or not there is enough road space for Emergency vehicles like an Ambulance of Fire Appliance to get through.”

The incident in Crediton on April 28 was caused by a red VW Camper van and a grey coloured Kia Picanto car parked on the one-way street, Church Street, during the previous weekend and on that day.
Many motorists in vehicles larger than a car were forced to reverse up Church Street to Belle Parade often causing many vehicles to have to also reverse.
Crediton Town Council said it has received a lot of communication about the vehicles and emailed Devon County Council, as the Highways Authority, and Crediton Police.
Crediton Police were on the scene on the Monday morning and had to close the road due to the issue.
It was police actions which resulted in the owners being traced before the vehicles were towed away.
