CREDITON Police have issued “A friendly reminder” that it is illegal to ride an e-scooter on a public road.

The police add that it is also illegal to ride an e-scooter on spaces that are used by pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders; including pavements, local parks and cycle lanes.

What is an e-scooter?

An e-scooter is classed as a Mechanically Propelled Vehicle which requires a driving license, tax and insurance - all of which you currently can't get for an e-scooter.

Where can I use one?

An e-scooter can only be used on private land with the permission of the land owner.

What happens if I'm caught riding an e-scooter by the Police?

If you're caught riding an e-scooter on a public road/space you could face: fines, penalty points on your driving license (or future license) and your e-scooter being seized.

If you harm someone whilst riding illegally, you could face further legal consequences.

The message is: “THINK! SAFETY”.
