DEVON and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service attended a fire at Lapford, opposite the garage, shortly after 2pm today (Friday, May 13).

The A377, which was earlier blocked in both directions, has re-opened.

The fire started in a vehicle and spread to a domestic building.

Firefighters removed roof slates and used hose reel jets and main jets from above in order to extinguish the fire. Three vans and the building were severely damaged.

The fire spread across two floors and a number of gas cylinders were moved to open ground and cooled by firefighters.

Appliances from Crediton, North Tawton, Okehampton, Danes Castle, Honiton and Witheridge attended.
