ADAMS Home Hardware, Crediton,  received a visit from 70 fellow Home Hardware members as part of the annual three day corporate members meeting held at Woodbury Park Hotel, near Exeter. Members came from all over England and Wales and also visited Garners's Home Hardware at Exmouth. Home Hardware was founded 50 years ago by a group of hardware stores in North Devon to combine their buying power to get better terms from suppliers. From that modest start Home Hardware has grown in size and has more than 450 member stores covering England, Wales and Northern Ireland. They now have two distribution centres in Barnstaple and Bedford. Home Hardware is a dealer-owned company - owned solely by its members, who get the benefit of being part of a large organisation without losing that personal touch and offer experience and knowledge. The Adams family has been trading from their store in Crediton High Street for more than 100 years. The store business was started by Harry Adams. Dick and Margaret Adams then took over and enlarged the store to its present size. Brothers, Richard and David Adams now run the store, which has been a member of Home Hardware since 1974, allowing them to offer prices that compete with larger stores. Adams Home Hardware has more than 17,000 stock lines at the Crediton Store – if a customer requires an item they do not stock, they will do their best to order it for them. Nora Parminter
