FARMING has been their life for most of their time together and, on August 12, Tony and Carol Price celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with a party at Yeoford for family and friends.

Tony, one of two children, grew up in Devon in a farming family, always wanting to farm.  He went to Bicton College, then had his own farm at Luppitt.

Carol and her sister were born at Dartmouth.  They went to school there until the family moved to Honiton when Carol was 14.

That was where she and Tony met at Honiton Young Farmers’ Club of which Tony was treasurer for a time.

They were married on August 12 at Feniton Parish Church in 1972.  By then Carol had trained as a nurse at Heavitree in Exeter but after they were married she worked on their dairy farm.

They stayed at Luppitt until 1987 when they moved to Spreyton, building up to a herd of 140 milking cows at Begbeer.

In 2002 they sold up and moved to the bungalow at Woodland Head where they now live.

Licenced as a Lay Minister by the Bishop of Plymouth 23 years ago, Carol looks after Holy Trinity Church at Yeoford.  She is also Assistant Warden of Licenced Lay Ministers for Exeter Dioceses.

She is a Focus Minister at Yeoford which means she can officiate at funerals and has taken several at Yeoford as well as some at Exeter and Devon Crematorium.

At Spreyton, Carol became President of the village Women’s Institute and Branch Leader of the Mothers’ Union.  Their daughter, Emma, later became head of the primary school.

Tony became a member of Crediton Hamlets Parish Council six years ago. As well as water divining, which he had used when farming and having joined Devon Dowsers, Tony has been using that skill more widely.  He also enjoys a game of bowls.

He and Carol have three children, Emma living in Yeoford, Tom in Yorkshire and Richard in Australia who they have visited several times.  The couple have six grandchildren.
