DURING last weekend the Devon Air Ambulance flew it's 16,000th mission when it was called to Broadwoodkelly to an adult female who had fallen.

She was airlifted to North Devon District Hospital - a journey of just 12 minutes by air - which would have taken up to an hour by land ambulance.

Helena Holt, Chief Executive of DAAT explained: "Our 16,000th mission is an amazing landmark achievement, which is only possible due to continued support from the community, businesses and friends of Devon."

Devon has two air ambulances which can reach 50 per cent of Devon within five minutes, with the remainder within 20 minutes.

The first mission was flown on August 27 1992.
