CREDITON Hamlets Parish Council met on Monday, October 10 at Yeoford Community Hall.

The council has decided to meet in the parish, at the Community Hall, on alternate months. At other times it will continue to meet at the Council Chamber in Crediton.

A total of 16 members of the public attended the meeting and spoke in favour of the parish council taking over the inspection, insurance and maintenance of the Yeoford View Play Area on an on-going basis.

The speakers recognised that this would be paid for out of the council precept and they thought this would be supported by parishioners.

The speakers emphasised the importance of this facility to the children of the parish.

Councillors Stevens and Wholley reported on the costings.

Councillors were concerned that they did not want to take on long-term commitments or to be responsible for large repair costs in the future.

They were also concerned about how the rest of the parish would respond to the council taking on a commitment for a service that was primarily for Yeoford.

The council resolved to pay the inspection and insurance costs to a maximum of £500 only.

The clerk reported that the External Auditor Certificate had been received and that in the Auditor’s opinion the information in the Annual Return was in accordance with proper practices.

The notice of conclusion of the website has been placed on the council’s website.

The clerk advised that she understood that the Yeoford Youth Club had applied for £690 for equipment from the TAP Fund.

Cllr Wholley said that the Youth Club was attended by youth from surrounding areas and was doing an excellent job. Cllr Jarvis reported that Yeoford Yarns had also applied for a TAP Fund grant.

Councillors declined a request from Crediton Boniface Rotary Club for a grant of £100 for the purchase of signs for the new planters on the A377.

Councillors agreed their attendance at the Remembrance Sunday Parade in Crediton.

The clerk reported that there were eight calls to the Police for a broken down HGV, a disqualified driver, a drink driver, a domestic, prowlers and road traffic collisions. Three crimes were reported, one domestic, one prowler and one road traffic collision.

The council received various reports from councillors and full details are set out in the minutes.

Cllr Heal reported that preparations by Mid Devon District Council to take some Syrian refugees were underway. They would be allocated private sector housing and the monies would be provided by Central government.

The next meeting of the council is on Monday, November 7 at the Council Chamber in Crediton at 7.30pm.

The draft minutes of Crediton Hamlets Parish Council are available on three noticeboards within the parish at Hookway, Westernlea and Yeoford. The minutes and other information about the council is available on the Crediton Hamlets Parish Council website: http://www.creditonhamlets.org.uk/ .
