THERE is so much going on at Crediton Bowling Club as national, county and now even club competitions have to be fitted in by prescribed dates.

This will mean that as you pass the green in Newcombes Meadow, there could well be far more going on than can be reported.

At present, it is obviously the very early rounds of every competition, but as time goes on, I can hopefully advise of any finals that may be due.

The highlight of the past fortnight has been President’s Day.

Joan Martin provided a sumptuous tea which was enjoyed not only by the 36 players who enjoyed 18 ends of bowls but also many friends who turned up just to support.

Joan also provided an incredible array of draw prizes, the proceeds of which will go to her nominated charity for the year.

Winners of the bowls match were Mike Haywood, Carol Haywood and Liz Ledsham who were all presented with a bottle of wine. There was a bar of chocolate for each of the three who finished last but it would be unfair to name them!

In the leagues the Over 60s A team defeated Pinces 8 - 0 and are currently 5th in Division 1.

The B team are also 5th in Division 4 but this week they came out on the wrong end of a 7 - 1 defeat to Exonia C.

The C team are 3rd in Division 6 after an 8 - 0 rout of Honiton B but are already quite a few points behind the top two.

In the Thursday evening EDL league the A team squeezed past Exonia A 6 - 4 and top the table in Division 1 after 4 rounds.

The B team is lying second after a tremendous 10 - 0 thumping of Topsham A. In Division 2 the C team are currently lying 4th.

It is rare to have a draw in bowls but following such a result against Topsham in the Pat Moon trophy the friendly side followed this up with another as there was an 81 - 81 result at North Tawton.

These two draws have been followed with comprehensive victories of 115 - 58 against Tavistock and 94 - 69 at home to Hatherleigh.

Unfortunately, there has been an outbreak of Covid in the club so some fixtures have been cancelled.

In the hope that this has all cleared up now the fixtures for the following week are: Sunday, June 9 Friendly v Honiton 2pm; Tuesday, June 11 Crediton Yellow v Topsham 10.30am; Wednesday, June 12 Over 60s B v Wellington Tigers 2.30pm; Wednesday, June 12 Over 60s C v North Tawton B 2.30pm; Thursday, June 13 Crediton Green v Seaton Blue 2pm.
