LOCAL fundraiser Sergiu Tautan has been running marathons to raise money for a minibus for the residents of Kenwyn Residential Care Home in Crediton and for the local community.

The first of three marathons that Sergiu competed in was a half marathon on the hills of the Exmoor Trail on October 27.

The second was the Peak District Dark Peak Trail Marathon on December 1, an orienteering marathon without any signs, only maps, which he finished in five hours and 20 minutes.

The third one will be an ultramarathon of 60 kilometres in Northumberland, Bamburgh Castel on February 23.

Sergiu said: "We wish to bring the local community to Kenwyn and a minibus will help us to do so.

"There have been a lot of changes at Kenwyn in the last year and the next step is to work with the wider community.

"We are planning to offer a few "chairs" for a Christmas meal for elderly people who would otherwise be on their own this Christmas.

"Also we are planning to engage the local community in our festive days such as fairs and when artists perform at Kenwyn, having a minibus will enable us to make this much easier."

He added: "We are also opening a bar at Kenwyn in December that will be open for residents, families and friends three evenings a week, with refreshments and pub food as well."
