Crediton Seconds 12 - North Tawton 39
NORTH Tawton got their new season off to a winning start with a club friendly against Crediton Seconds.
The sides played two half-hour sessions plus 20 minutes to finish, with a regular change of players all keen to get some game time before the league starts in earnest.
With tries from Will Lethbridge, Kev Dennis, Conner Maiths, Jordan Cornthwaithe, Matt Baker and two for Luke Dennis, it ensured that the away side won every session and in truth always looked like the team in charge.
That is not to take anything away from Creddy Seconds, who played the game in the spirit of a friendly.
After the close season that the Tawts have had with losing their captain to a nasty accident I am sure it did everybody good to have a run out. Craig Dennis’ boots and leadership on the field will be impossible to replace, he was the leader of the team, a turn-to player, but if the glimpses of this run out start to shine then hopefully North Tawton could be in for a good season.
It won’t be easy, plenty of travelling to the depths of Cornwall, but the Tawts I am sure are up for it.
The biggest achievement by a North Tawton player this week was Craig Dennis standing up from his wheelchair for the first time since his fall, I am sure you will agree that gets him Man of the Match.
Next is home to Honiton, a league higher than North Tawton, so should be a good test.
