Okehampton Colts 35 – Crediton Colts 12

OKEHAMPTON and Crediton Colts XV’s met in the Colts league for the second time this season on Saturday, February 22.

These games between the two clubs also double as the competition for the George Ogborne Memorial Cup, presented by George’s family in his memory, where the aggregate of the scores decides the winner.

The first half was an even contest, with the play going end to end. The half ended at half time at 7 points each.

As soon as the second half started, the Okehampton XV gained the ascendency and ran in three quick scores in the next 15 minutes to take the score to 28 – 7.

The Crediton XV then started a fight-back that severely tested the Okehampton defence, but it was not until the later stages of the game that they were finally able to score another try. However, Okehampton struck back quickly to cross the try line for their final score almost on time, winning the game by 35 -12.

The league game between the club played at Crediton earlier in the season resulted in a win for the Okehampton Colts by 26 - 7, and therefore the aggregate score of the two games for the Memorial Cup competition was Okehampton 61 pts, Crediton 19.

The Cup was presented to Josh Burgoyne, the Okehampton captain, by Charlotte Ogborne and Lizzie Cole.

The games between the two clubs have been played in a great spirit and produced some fine rugby.

The lads are a credit to their clubs and to rugby, and the games are a fitting tribute to George who played for Okehampton, but also had friends among the Crediton players.
