CREDITON Rugby Club will host the Devon RFU Walking Rugby Cup at its festival tomorrow, Saturday, August 19.

This year's festival marks the second year of the competition as the sport grows in popularity.

All of the teams played in Topsham’s festival last week so it is expected to be a close competition.

Walking Rugby is a seven-a-side light touch format of the game and is enjoyed across the county.

This weekend's event sees five Devon clubs fielding teams for the Devon RFU Walking Rugby Cup.

They are:

Cup Holders Dartmouth RFC, last year's runners-up Exeter Saracens who will be up against stalwarts of Walking Rugby, Topsham RFC and recent new comers to the format, Withycombe RFC, along with hosts Crediton RFC.

President of Crediton RFC, Roger Holloway, said: "Crediton RFC is delighted to host the Devon Cup.

"Walking rugby enables older players to enjoy the social aspects of the game whilst exercising with little risk of injury.

"Whilst it can get quite competitive we encourage fun and we have 'The fun Cup' awarded for fair play."

Each team will play each other in a round robin tournament at Crediton’s Exhibition Road ground, KO 12 noon.

The tournament will conclude around 5pm with the presentation of the trophies.

Walking Rugby is an inclusive game aimed at older players of all genders.

Crediton RFC walking rugby group meets for light training sessions at the club on Tuesdays and Fridays at 6.30pm and it welcomes new players. No rugby experience is required.
