CLEVE 38 CREDITON 7
WE can certainly have no complaints about the outcome of the trip to Cleve, a disappointing performance and an equally disappointing result.
The home side dominated territory and possession almost from start to finish and were good value for their victory.
They were quick to close down any attacking threat that we might have posed as their defensive line speed meant that we were unable to create space and seldom threatened their line.
The Cleve forwards were much bigger but to be fair they never got the better of us at the scrum, something that did surprise the home crowd.
We found ourselves 14 points adrift in as many minutes, the first up tackles left much to be desired and the home backs were able to get their offloads in, very rarely did they spill the ball and at times we were living off scraps.
We pulled a try back late in the first half when we were awarded a penalty and the kick for the corner produced a superb catch and drive try with hooker Dan Yendell on the end of it. Ollie Avery-Wright converted but by then we were 21 points adrift.
The second half was much of the same, we were rarely seen as an attacking force in the danger areas.
Josh Davey had a run down the left touchline and looked to have scored but it seems his foot clipped the touchline.
A brief spell in the Cleve “22” near then looked as though it might bear fruit but a penalty conceded when in a good position gave them an easy exit.
A penalty and two converted tries, one right on the final whistle, gave Cleve a relatively comfortable victory.
There was certainly no lack of effort and the players, as always give 100 per cent, today was simply not our day and we will surely bounce back.

The Quins put in a good shift with a bonus point victory in against Cullompton in Devon Merit Table One.
The forwards had total domination against our mid Devon rivals who seemed intent on questioning every decision of the referee, well certainly the ones that went against them. Rob Leach, Tom Luxmoore, Dan Cooper and Nathan Ronchetti were the try scorers with Tom Ronchetti landing all four conversions.
For the second time this season, the three Ronchetti brothers have appeared in the same side together so congratulations to all three. Tom, Nathan and Sam.
We are not sure if three brothers have appeared in the same side but no doubt someone out there will be able to let us know!
NORTH TAWTON 2NDS 12 CREDITON 3RDS 19
An excellent result for the Thirds in the local closely fought derby at North Tawton. Deyan Tomic, Neil Collins and Sam Rodda grabbed the tries with Hayden Hill converting two.
EXMOUTH COLTS 12 CREDITON COLTS 26
The Colts returned to winning ways with a comfortable away win at Exmouth with a good all round performance.
Liam Newstead, Callum Yeandle, Finnlay Morgan and Cameron Storey were the try scorers with Ryan Styles landing three conversions.
Tomorrow we entertain league leaders Thornbury when we hope to break the run of three successive defeats.
The Quins travel to Bude for a friendly whilst the Thirds are at home against Honiton Seconds in a Merit Table fixture.
The Colts travel to Brixham.
