CREDITON U13s 85 WESTERN HORNETS 35

CREDITON Under 13 girls managed to continue their winning streak with a comfortable win over a strong Western Hornets team.

Many new players joined the team, who all well and truly stepped up to the plate, helping to secure an 85-35 win over the visiting side.

They all played extremely well as a new and developing team.

Try scorers: Abigail Adams, Tilly Pulfer, Charley Baker, Charlotte Wreford, Georgia Scott McDowell and Naomi Acton.

Player of the match went to Jess Denham-Hill for her superb try saving tackling, showing her improvement from last season.

Next we are off to Exmouth/Withycombe to hopefully continue conquering the South West U13 girls teams.

A massive well done to everyone who played, you all did so well!

CREDITON U15s 42 WESTERN HORNETS 0

Playing at home for the first time since the opening day of the season, Crediton U15 girls were in total control of their match up against a, traditionally very strong, Western Hornets team.

Keen to make-up for last week’s unfortunate defeat the Black and Gold’s tore into the opposition, eager to put that disappointment behind them.

It worked very well for them with an opening try forced home after some consistent pressure from the girls.

It became a bit scrappy for a period after the try with both teams unable to keep possession for any length of time, either losing the ball from the tackle or forcing a turnover from the numerous rucks and mauls.

It was the Crediton girls who slowly pieced together four or five phases of play though to score a second try in the corner.

Hornets then had their best period of the game, working the ball three or four times down into the Crediton 22 area, but stout and determined defence rebutted and rebuffed everything that the Somerset visitors had to offer.

Then finally, just before the break, Crediton got their reward for all of the defensive hard work with a third try for a comfortable 15-0 lead at half-time.

The second half was, literally, downhill all the way for the Creddy girls as they eliminated most of the small errors from the first-half and put the Hornets to the sword time-and-time again.

Great running, strong rucking and repeatedly keeping the ball alive, saw five more tries and a conversion added to the score with the final try a thing of beauty.

Crediton won line-out ball and held it in, ensuring good delivery to the backs. The back line passed smoothly, directly and at speed allowing their winger to get around the outside of the opposition to cross the line and touch down near to the posts.

The comfortable 42-0 victory did not flatter a great team performance best illustrated by five different try scorers amongst the eight tries scored.

Coach Anthony Evans was delighted at the result.

He said: “Very well done today by the girls. Although it’s still early in the season, already the improvement from summer training to now is tremendous.

“We are getting most of the basics right first time and now that that’s established we can work on the smaller things to get that next step or two forwards.”

He continued: “All of the coaches feel that if we do the right things on a Thursday, it will improve us for the matches. We have no passengers in this squad, every girl is doing what she can to improve herself and this benefits the squad as a whole.”
