TOTNES 3 - NORTH TAWTON 73

THE score suggests it was a one-sided affair and the stark truth is after a shaky first 10 minutes from the Tawts, it was.

Totnes scored first, a penalty offside from North Tawton, so it was 3-0 to the home side who, at this stage, looked full of running.

With a few dropped passes from North Tawton, and a referee who didn’t want to cut the Tawts any slack for quick line speed, maybe the away side were in for a hard afternoon.

Well from 15 minutes in, and a Si Quick try to settle any jitters, this was converted by James Bowden.

The Tawts took control and a missed penalty from Totnes, which seemed to take ages to take, the home team needed to get their breath back after a substained period of fast open play by a North Tawton team getting the taste for it.

Three tries followed in 10 minutes and, in fairness, put the game well out of reach of a disheartened Totnes side.

The best of the tries came from a Totnes restart in to Si Quick who off loaded it to Si Cox, the pair running from inside their own 10 metre line. Si Cox scoring without a Totnes player touching the ball.

From then on in it was just about North Tawton keeping the scoreboard ticking along.

We ended up with three tries for Craig Dennis, two tries for James Bowden, one each for Matt Baker, Si Cox, Si Quick, Gary Sizmur, James Miller and Matt Hurrell, with nine of the conversions successful we got to the quite outstanding 73.

With due respect to Totnes I would say that they were more pleased to hear the final whistle than the Tawts who, by the finish, were throwing the ball around with impunity and enjoying a run out in the South Hams sunshine.

No man of the match this week. Next it is at home to Buckfastleigh.
