Brixham RFC 15 - 3rd XV 28

AFTER a few well-earned weeks of rest, the Thirds rolled down to the south coast for what can only be described as a classic farmers versus fishermen showdown.

John “Gizza” Gurzynski once again worked his magic, assembling a squad with the trademark blend of youthful spark and seasoned knowhow, even throwing in a couple of father and son combinations for good measure. Proper club rugby.

From the first whistle it was clear this would be a tough, physical battle, but our forwards relished it. They took control of the set piece early, dominating the scrum and lineout and giving the backs the kind of clean possession they dream about.

Picking out individuals is almost impossible after a shift like that, but one moment of selection bravery deserves a spotlight.

Skipper Ben Rodd, swapping his usual No. 8 shirt for the No. 12 jersey, delivered an inspired performance in the midfield.

His leadership, carrying, and defensive presence set the tone for the entire side and proved pivotal in steering the team to a well-earned 15–28 victory on the road.

A gritty contest, a dominant pack, backs who made their chances count, and a captain leading from an unfamiliar position, the perfect recipe for a cracking away win.

Scorers – Tries; Rodd (2), Tom Cooper, Joe Warren – Cons; Tom Cooper (3), Owen Cooper.

Coming up: Saturday, April 18: 1st XV v Tiverton (A), 2nd XV v Honiton (A).

With no home games it would be fantastic to get as much support as possible on the road to cheer on the 1s and 2s!
