NORTH TAWTON 99 - ST COLUMBA TOR POINT 7

THE Saint Columba Tor Point team arrived at Taw Meadows on Saturday, February 17, with a bare 14 players, which, on reflection, was better than last week’s team who could only manage eight, hence a walk over and no match report for last week.

With a week off, so to speak, the Tawts were looking forward to playing some rugby, and play they did.

The opposition might not have been the strongest they have faced all season but a 15 try fest tells its own story.

It was a hiding in every sense, but for all that Columba never gave up trying.

The team kept making tackles and kept North Tawton honest but in open play had no answer to the home side, who, I might add, were chasing as many points as they could muster as the league situation is so tight.

In effect three teams fought for two promotion places meaning for and against points could be the decider.

The Tawts travel to Plymouth this coming Saturday for what is probably the biggest game of the season against a high flying OPM team.

Hopefully the Tawts will get some travelling support to help them along.

As I have said, 15 tries, Alex and Matty Dennis with two a piece, M Baker with only one this week (must be slipping), Si Quick, Bill Sharp, Ryan Goss and the elder statesman of the side, Graham Sage, all chipping in with one each, then Conner Mathis with a hat-trick but surely the man of the match was James Bowden who not only got a hat-trick of tries but converted 12 of the 15 kicks he took at the posts giving him a personal total of 39 points for the day - I would wager that was a record.
