THE sun shone on Lapford Playing Field as 10 residents gathered for the unveiling of a new welcome sign.

The English Oak sign was designed and made by Lapford man Derek Parrot.

The hand carved lettering is in Univers font and stands out well.

Committee chairman Roy Andrews thanked Derek and his wife, Janice, for such a beautiful sign, calling it “Real Craftsmanship”.

Derek, Roy and Roy’s granddaughter, Aurelia unveiled the sign in ceremonial fashion to a round of applause.

The Playing Field at Lapford is a great community asset and is used well by the local community.

There are many items of play equipment including a slide, roundabouts, climbing frames, a picnic table, seating etc.

The Lapford Youth and Playing Field Trust are a group of volunteers who manage the playing field in the village centre. It is located off Church Close and behind the churchyard.
