A GYM in Honiton is saving around 2,500 litres of water a day after installing new water efficiency devices.

B! Health & Fitness, Honiton’s first 24-hour fitness centre, received eight-water saving devices from South West Water’s free water efficiency visit service for businesses, which will save them the equivalent of a swimming pool’s worth of water every two weeks.

South West Water provides water efficiency visits all-year round, giving support to businesses to help reduce their water use. While these savings benefit businesses and the environment throughout the year, they are particularly valuable during periods of prolonged dry weather, when reducing demand helps protect water supplies while temporary hosepipe restrictions are in place for household customers.

The high-end fitness centre includes a comprehensive range of equipment, tailored training, stretching areas, and free weights, which encourage vigorous exercise that subsequently leads to high water usage from taps and showers.

South West Water’s team of water efficiency experts check for internal plumbing losses to repair and determine how best to support companies with bespoke water-saving measures.

At B! Health & Fitness, the team installed water-saving devices for showers and tap inserts to limit water flow and reduce water consumption while still providing good pressure for gym members.

The team also installed save-a-flush devices to reduce the amount of water a toilet releases with each flush without impacting the toilet’s performance, and urinal water-saving devices to ensure water is only used when necessary.

Water efficiency visits are an impactful way of turning a business’ usual set up into a reliable water-saving one. The eight water saving devices installed at B! Health & Fitness are now saving around 2,674 litres of water every day, whilst still allowing the gym to operate as usual.
