A SERIES of Saturday sessions at Mid Devon Leisure Centres are being made available to refugee families from October 29, with a session being held at each of the Council’s leisure centres.
Mid Devon Leisure is working with CHAT (Churches Housing Action Team) to facilitate a host of activities to provide wellbeing benefits, including: fitness taster sessions, a variety of sports as well as tea, coffee and biscuits.
The drop-ins will also provide an opportunity for attendees to network and support each other.
The sessions are:
• Saturday, October 29, 10am to 12 noon at Exe Valley Leisure Centre, Tiverton (Dance Studio)
• Saturday, November 5, 2pm to 4pm at Lords Meadow Leisure Centre, Crediton (Main Hall)
• Saturday, November 19, 10am to 12 noon at Culm Valley Sports Centre, Cullompton (Main Hall).
Free second-hand fitness clothing and equipment will also be made available at each of the sessions, enabling everyone to get active and extending the active-life of clothing.
Councillor Dennis Knowles, Cabinet Member for Community Well Being, said: “We’re proud to be working alongside CHAT to provide a scheme that brings much needed support to refugee and asylum seeker communities with the aim of looking after people’s wellbeing.
“Our sessions will provide a support network where people can find help and encouragement from new friends while enjoying the health and wellbeing benefits which come from exercise.”
