THE following is a letter which was sent to the Bowling Club at the end of last season. It really does say how we all feel about our Bowling Club, thank you Paul for putting it into words.
“It was the 13th of April 2019. A day I will always remember because that was the day that I went through the gate to Morchard Bishop Bowling Club for my first time. I had just moved to the village.
“I read about the club online via the parish council site before moving and decided I would give it a try.
“It was one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life. I was greeted at the gate by the club president, Marcia who made me very welcome.
“Marcia introduced me to various members, whose names I forgot instantly but all seemed very glad that I had made an effort to come to their opening day. “I was invited to a practice day the following Tuesday. This was great, I used a set of club bowls and was provided with a pair of bowling shoes for the session.
“I was told my delivery was good for someone just starting out. This was tremendous news.
“Perhaps I had chosen a sport I might be reasonable at. From that day, to-date, I have been given great encouragement, support, and help.
“I am now moving to Combe Martin. I started thinking about who I should thank. I made a list and the list just kept getting bigger and bigger.
“I then realised that I needed to thank each and everyone belonging to the club. You have all enhanced my life and I will miss you all.
“There is so much work and organisation going on behind the scenes to give us glorious days of bowls. Your work never goes unnoticed. You all know who you are. Again a big thank you.
“Finally, if there is anyone reading this who wants to join a great bunch of people playing a most enjoyable sport then get yourself down to the Bowling Club.
“It is open mid April to mid September. You won’t regret it.
“My biggest regret is I never took up the sport at an earlier age. The sport is played by all ages. It is not just for people of a certain age.
“The people who play bowls for Devon and England level are mainly young. I shall be joining the bowling club at Combe Martin. There is no way I am giving it up now.
“I wish you all good health and happiness for the future and hope our paths will meet again. “THANK YOU.” Paul

“The bowling green is open from Mid April until Mid September, so why not come along and try a new sport.
“Contact details are on the Bowls Devon or the Club website.”
