COMPLETING Finals Day was left to the blue ribboned events to find the overall ladies and gents singles champions at Crediton Bowling Club.
Both matches lived up to expectations and for the fourth year in a row Liz Smerdon won the title, overcoming one of her fellow Devon bowlers Amy Bond.
The Men’s final between Richard Ellis and Michael Tapp had everything. Richard raced into an early lead only for Michael to gain his composure and claw his way back into the match.
At 20-20 the watching crowd knew everything would be resolved on the final end.
Richard kept his nerve to win the title for the first time.
Both bowlers are to be congratulated on producing such a fine match in a final.
Every Friday during the season members take part in the Umbrella tournament.
The Peter Martin Memorial Cup has been presented since 2019 and has always been won by Trevor Newbery.
This year there is a new name on the trophy as Richard Gunn, who is also the organiser of the evenings, scored the highest number of points. Richard received his trophy from Peter’s wife Joan, who is also the Club’s President, and Mark Theedom, who had organised all the competitions throughout the season.
The final trophy of the day was presented to David Carpenter, Mary Abbott and Mike Heywood who had previously won the Mixed Triples Competition.
