Saturday, October 26 signalled the end of Downes’ summer season as members competed for the Champion’s Trophy and much coveted claret jug.

In testing conditions, that included rain and strong winds, it was a tough battle for the title but it was Paul Hayward who was up to the challenge posting a superb nett 66 (four under) to claim victory.

He was closely followed by Simon March who shot a brilliant nett 69 (one under) to finish second with Ben Marchant (nett 73) in third place.

The evening saw the Annual Presentation night that not only congratulated the winners of the year but also presented David Taylor with “Clubman of the Year” for his tireless help and input on the golf course and John Veale with a “Special Recognition Award” for his services to Downes Crediton over his 34 years at the club.
