OKEHAMPTON Golf Club held an individual medal competition incorporating the first round of Club Championships best gross score and the Hutchings Cup best nett score on Saturday, June 5, in stunning conditions.

After the first 18 holes the leader board is as follows in first place, Kevin Cornwall with an excellent gross 69, second Barry Down gross 74, third Gareth Holt with gross 74 and Malcolm Hooper also with a gross 74 so an exciting second round is still to come.

The winner of Division One with the best nett score was Alan Searle nett 63, in second was John Halliday with nett 65 and in third with nett 66 was Kevin Cornwall.

The best nett score in division two went to Gary Carey with nett 63, Ian Drayner was second with nett 65 and Rod Wright was third with nett 68. Rob Jones was the winner of Division Three with nett 63, Pete Grant took second with nett 64 and Alan Dunn was third with nett 65.

The ladies section also played an individual medal competiton and the winner of the scratch for the Margaret Down Trophy was Frances Harbron with a gross 77 followed into second place by Marcia Collet with gross 84. The winner of Division One and the Silver Peacock Salver was Maggie Caws with nett 66, Frances Harbron was second with nett 67 and Cherry James was third with nett 69.

Mary Keir was the winner of the Division Two and the Bronze Peacock Salver with nett 67 after countback on the back nine from, in second Di Johnson also achieving nett 67. Pam Jarman was third with a nett 68.
