SATURDAY, May 30 was the Captain’s Charity Golf Day. More than 100 players took part in a four ball event. During the day the players and visitors were able to enjoy an all day BBQ.

The nominated charity for our Captain, Gerald Abdoll, is Force and he said: “My captain’s charity of the year is Force (Friends of the Oncology and Radiotherapy Centre, Exeter).

“It became a charity in 1987.

“In 2004 it opened a purpose built Cancer Support and Information Centre located on the grounds of the RD and E Hospital.

“In 2012 the centre was extended, allowing them to support even more people affected by cancer.

“Force's main focus is to provide support and treatment to people living with cancer. They are also committed to improve patient care by funding research and innovation.

“The majority of the funding comes from fundraising events of which the South West half-marathon and the Nello bike race are their main events.

“Fund raising from individuals is also a valued source of income.

“My reason for choosing them as my captain’s charity of the year is because of the fact that some of my close family members and friends have succumbed to this disease. “My aim is to raise as much as I can and thus far we raised up to £1,600 during three events held at the golf club.

“I’m also taking part in the Nello 60 mile bike race on June 28 and I hope that I’ll be able increase the amount raised throughout the year.

“I would like to thank everyone that has contributed to this cause so far and I hope I can count on their continued support.

“Finally well done to the winners of Saturday’s competition: Leigh Davis, Nathan Hubble, Scott Harris and Paul D’Inverno.”
