DOWNES Crediton Golf Club seniors held their Don McRae Trophy on Monday, July 23 which saw a strong field of players.
It was Alan Willey who came through on top with an absolutely incredible score of 62 (eight under) to win the trophy and Division One. He was followed by Stephen Gidley who scored a brilliant 64 (six under) to finish second in Division One.
In Division Two John Hooper took the spoils with a fantastic score of 64 (six under) while John Warren finished second with a great score of 65 (five under).
The Mid-Week stableford, played on Wednesday, July 25, was won by Adam Hull who score a brilliant 39 points to be four shots clear of his dad, Joe, who finished second with a score of 35 points.
Thursday, July 26 saw Downes ladies play in the annual lady captain’s day which is one of the best days in the calendar and it didn’t disappoint as Di Parsons, Sue Bond and Viv Jordan took top spot with a brilliant score of 84 points to win. They were followed by the team of Trish Wallis, Rickie Pawsey and Lyn Parry who scored 81 points.
The nearest pin on the third hole was won by Rickie Pawsey and the nearest the gin on the sixth hole was won by Sue Bonner.
There was some fantastic scoring in this year’s John Percival three-man team on Saturday, July 28 as the team of Derek Shaw, Matt Redstone and Downes club captain Nick Murch took top spot with a brilliant score of 59 beating the team of Dave Hill, Paul Sandercock and Kevin Parry who also scored 59 points but lost to a better back nine to finish second. The team of Matt Russell, Darren Russell and Neil Wilson finished third with a score of 60.
A massive congratulations goes to the Downes Crediton Palairet team who beat Tiverton 3 and 2 in the quarter-finals on Sunday, July 29. This means that Crediton will be heading to this year’s finals day for the first time in more than 10 years.
