MONDAY, July 22 saw Downes Crediton Golf Club Seniors play the first round of their Club Championship, which was due to conclude on July 29.

Leading the way in the gross scores were Peter Russell who scored a fine 77 which also saw his nett score of 65 top Division One.

Jim Kenshole posted a 78 to lie second in the gross whilst a nett 69 from Brian Willams placed him second in Division One.

In Division Two Arthur Moughton scored a superb nett 61 to take the overall daily win and top Division Two with George Crabbe (nett 64) second and Rob Dobson (nett 65) third.

Matt Dyne continued his fine run of form scoring 39 points to take victory in the Midweek Stableford, played on Wednesday, July 24.

On Thursday, July 25 Downes Ladies enjoyed a superb Ladies Captain’s day which saw the trio of Di Botterill, Viv Bailey and Annet Coles win the Ivor Doble Cup as outright team winners.

With a variety of spot prizes there were many winners across the day whilst the Pimms half-way house saw the day pass in a very jovial and fun atmosphere.

“Thank you to all that attended and supported the day,” said Lady Captain Shirley Stunell.

The Thursday Evening Stableford nine hole qualifier saw James Stagg post 21 points to take the victory.

With the course looking superb on Saturday, July 27 Rob Whittleston scored a fine 42 points to take the overall victory and top Division One in the Club Stableford.

Second place overall and leading lady on the day was Ladies Captain Shirley Stunell, a point further back on 41.

Jason Arnold continued his fine form posting 37 points for second place in Division One whilst Club Captain Graham Dyne (36 pts) placed third.

Jim Matheson topped Division Two with a 39 points haul whilst Paul Hayward and Duncan Cooper both scored 37 points for second and third respectively.

In Division Three the trio of Wayne Moore, John Smale and Chris Bowden all scored 34 points to finish first second and third respectively.
