ONE of the most eagerly awaited and fiercely fought senior matches of the year took place at Downes Crediton Golf Club on Monday, July 8 with the Devonians taking on the Rest of the World.
As always, it is a match played in great spirit and it took until the final game and putt of the day for the two teams to be split.
A birdie on the final hole from Jim Kenshole saw the Devonians secure the all-important point to run out winners 7-6.
The Midweek Stableford on Wednesday, July 11 was won by Paul Sandercock shooting 39 points.
This year’s Ladies Club Championship was played with the first round taking place on Tuesday (July 9) and the final round on Thursday (July 11).
Tracey Chandler dominated the proceedings posting two fine rounds on gross 82 (164 total) to take victory from second placed Ying Wong.
Ying Wong did come out on top in the Handicap Trophy in the handicap section though taking top spot with a nett total of 146.
Fran Shrubsole won the Liz Mapson trophy (the best score of the two rounds).
Saturday, July 13 saw Downes members compete in the John Percival Trophy, a three-player team one score-to-count medal and it was the trio of Daniel Uren, Matt Uren and Simon Rogers who stole the show scoring an incredible 52 (18 under) to take victory.
This saw the two clear of their nearest challengers, Terry Banbury, Adrian Snell and Andrew Priddle, who scored a 55 (15 under) while the team of Tim Keehner, Jason Arnold and Ben Rowe finished third with a score of 56 (14 under).
