THIS year’s Jack Painting Memorial winner at Downes Crediton Golf Club was Cyril Dawes who scored 40 points to take the trophy on Monday, June 10.

Cyril also topped Division One whilst James Downing posted 37 points to finish second place.

In Division Two John Warren claimed top spot with a great score of 39 points whilst Colin Ray (38 pts) finished in second place.

The Wednesday (June 12) Stableford winner was Neil Wood with a brilliant 40 points.

In the ladies section Ying Wong took the overall victory in this months County Stableford Six and Division One, played on June 13, with a score of 29 points beating Shirley Stunell (29 pts) into second courtesy of a better back nine.

In Division Two Sue Barr took top spot with a score of 27 points with Joyce Gilg finishing second posting 26 points.

Shirley Stunell claimed the Grandma’s cup for this year.

There was a buzz around Downes Crediton on Saturday, June 15 as members competed in the first round of the Club Championship, a two round tournament that concludes on Saturday, June 22.

A really interesting day of golf saw Martin Garnsey and Matt Dyne both post gross 75’s to share the lead in the gross whilst Ashley Cross fired a fine nett 65 to lead in the handicap but with a dozen players still in close proximity there will still be all to play for this weekend.
