DOWNES Crediton Golf Club Seniors held their Mike Thompson Trophy competition on Monday, October 8 which saw Jim Dunlop steal the show with a fantastic score of 43 to take the overall victory and Division One.

Wally Phillips finished with a score of 39 points to take second whilst Nick Bromell (39 pts) placed third.

In Division Two Richard Wilson took top spot with 43 points with Alun Lewis second posting 39 points and John Rance (39 pts) in third.

Darren Clifford won the Midweek Stableford on Wednesday, October 10 with a score of 30 points whilst Jason Arnold finished second with 29 points.

In terrible weather conditions Ying Wong took the spoils in the Ladies Medal and Mapledoram Cup on Thursday, October 11 shooting a great score of nett 77. She also topped Division One with Fran Shrubsole finishing second with a nett score of 79.

Division Two saw Sue Sparham take top spot with a nett score of 80 with Sue Bonner posting a nett score of 82.

Saturday, October 13 saw Downes’ greenkeepers get their revenge on the members of the club in the annual Greenkeepers Revenge competition.

With tricky and unusual pin positions, course furniture and the wind and rain also a factor, the members were always in for a tough but enjoyable day of golf.

This being said it didn’t stop the family team of Jack Cross, Shaun Cross, Ryan Cross and Stephen Cross producing a brilliant score of nett 64 in the Texas Scramble format to beat the quartet of Andrew Chandler, Nick Murch, John Ponsford and David Taylor, who scored a nett 65, into second.

Kester Blackmore, Adam Hull, Quintin Payne-Cook and David Sims finished third with a nett score of 67.

Dads, sons, daughters, grandchildren, grandparents and friends congregated on Sunday, October 14 to play in the annual Chandler Generation Challenge.

With ages ranging from six to 84 years-old the pairs played a pairs foursomes stableford and it was the father and son pair of Graham and Matt Dyne who took this year’s trophy with a fantastic score of 40 points.

Sam Dyne and Gary Price (34 pts) took second whist Kes and Steve Blackmore (32 pts) finished third.

Well played to all that took part in a fun game of golf.
