A CREDITON sporting superstar struck Gold, Silver and Bronze at a recent competition.

Dee Weiner was competing at the Special Olympics GB National Summer Games Badminton competition at the University of Nottingham during the weekend of June 13 and 14.

Dee explained: “I had a great time competing and socialising with all my friends from across the UK and my family and friends came to support me.

“It was a fantastic weekend and a great experience competing on a national platform.

“I was lucky enough to have my coach Jake Dan come along to support and coach me courtside throughout the weekend.

“It was the first Special Olympics National Summer Games in over 9 years.

“I came home with a Gold Medal in the ladies singles in Division 2, a Silver Medal in the mixed doubles in Division 2 and a Bronze Medal in the ladies doubles in Division 1.”

Dee is currently doing the Bronze level on the Special Olympics GB leadership program to become an Athlete leader.

Special Olympics is for Adults and Children with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The Special Olympics is in 207 countries and Special Olympics have more than 5.6 million Athletes globally, holding over 100,000 games and competitions annually.

Special Olympics Great Britain deliver around 85 competitions a year and have 100 Athlete Leaders.

It is a non profit organisation.

In March Dee was honoured to be asked to represent Special Olympics Great Britain at the Yonex All England Badminton championships in Birmingham with three other Special Olympics athletes.

She was there as part of the Renewal of the Partnership between the Badminton World Federation and the Special Olympics GB to celebrate the signing of a renewed Memorandum of Understanding and new Global Badminton Development Strategy, that's designed to increase opportunities for Special Olympics athletes in the sport around the world.
