GABBY Sully-Dunbar (age 22) won the British Weightlifting Age Group Championships on Sunday, November 12, in the under 23, 59kg class.

Gabby lifted a personal best total of 140kg in this close competition in Leeds. 

She led the group after the snatch, lifting 62kg but just missing on 65kg. She continued with a strong series of clean and jerks, finishing with 78kg.

“I couldn’t feel my legs,” she said afterwards.

On being told that she had won she said: “I wasn’t expecting that. I came here to get a total and some experience.”

Gabby trains at Excelsior Athletic Development Club in Willand, her coach, James Marshall said: “All the women in this group are very strong and technically sound.

“It comes down to who can channel their nerves on the day.

“Gabby did an excellent job.”
