SANDFORD AFC Second Team played Pinhoe and Whipton in a League Division Six football match at the George V Playing Field in Sandford on Saturday, March 16.

With a few First Team players drafted into the side because of injuries the home side had a stranger than normal look to it.

On a heavy pitch both sides played some enjoyable football in the first half.

The only down side was Luke Knight, the Sandford keeper, injuring his knee on the slippery conditions and having to be replaced by substitute, Nathen Mew.

The home side cruised to a 2-0 lead at half-time.

The second half saw Sandford take more control of the game and their opponents became more and more frustrated with some reckless tackling leading to two players being booked and a lot more let go by the referee.

One tackle led to a penalty which Sam Reeves placed into the corner of the net, 3-0 to Sandford.

The first two goals were scored by James Durand after his one for the First Team the previous Saturday.

The fourth Sandford goal was scored by Greg Mildon.

With 10 minutes to go, the home side brought on super sub, Lloyd Phelps.

Two lovely chances fell to right winger Steven Dymond, the first a cross field ball which he ran on to but failed to connect.

The second, another cross field ball, this time in the air which he headed perfectly past the keeper.

On the final whistle the score was Sandford 5, Pinhoe and Whipton 0.

This Saturday the Second Team are away to City Raiders, kick-off 3pm.

The First Team resume their programme with a home match against Clyst Valley, kick-off 3pm.
