CREDITON UNITED FC 0 - NEWTON ABBOT SPURS 1

THIS was not a classic by any stretch of the imagination but a battle as both sides cancelled each other out for the majority of this match and it was the softest of penalties that decided it.

Crediton were coming in on the back of a splendid win at close rivals Okehampton and set themselves up in a quite attacking format with the six goal star Will Collins upfront once more.

It was good to see the return of Keoluva Amorinde on the left wing who showed glimpses of what he is capable of and also gave us examples of how fast he is.

Newton were strong and powerful like they often are and overall probably shaded this match as Crediton hardly had a shot on goal for the whole 90 minutes.

Of the first half there is very little to say but it ended 0-0.

The referee got more involved as the match went on and several players were booked in what was a competitive but not overly physical encounter.

Amorinde was substituted just after half time owing to an injury and try as they might, Crediton could not get the goal they hoped for.

The closest they came was when a cross from Finn Drew was headed marginally wide by Lukey White.

Then as an innocuous looking cross found its way into the Crediton area it appeared to strike a defender on the arm and the ref did not have a difficult decision to make and pointed immediately to the spot.

Then Pullman sent keeper Lewis Leyton who had a fine game, the wrong way and put Spurs into the lead.

Crediton brought on all their subs but this made little difference as they could not find a way past the away goalie.

The South Devon boys went home the happier.

Next Saturday we entertain Bude Town in the FA Vase.
