EXETER and Tedburn Rangers Ladies Football Club members are busy preparing for a new season in the South West Women’s Football League, and with the televised Women’s World Cup taking place during the summer months it is hoped that local interest in either taking up the game or returning to the game, will be stimulated.

It is traditionally quite difficult to recruit from rural and semi-rural populations, and both previous and current Rangers squads have included players from as far afield as Plymouth and South Devon, but the club is extremely keen to ensure it provides as much local representation as possible.

The club commences its pre-season training on Monday, July 1, at Barley Park, Tedburn St Mary (EX6 6AE) at 7pm, after which it will continue every Monday and Wednesday at the same time.

Friendly matches will be played on Sundays during August, and the club is hoping to include attendance at a couple of small-sided Tournaments as part of the preparations for the league programme. The league normally commences in early September, with matches kicking-off at 2pm on Sunday matchdays.

Players need to be 16 years of age or over. The club has always retained a mix of both experienced and young talented players starting on their women’s football journey.

The team struggled over the last season with weekly problems of player availability, despite having a 35-player squad, so new players will need to be able to demonstrate a commitment to both the game and the team in order to progress, but the rewards of being part of this well established friendly and supportive club include a sense of unity, togetherness, and friendship.

Players are likely to be competing with teams including Plymouth Argyle Reserves; Bude; Feniton; Alphington; St Agnes; Charlestown; and Plympton.

As a result, there is an opportunity to experience playing teams from throughout Devon and Cornwall in a highly competitive league.

All sessions contain elements of fitness, individual coaching and teamplay, so there should be something for everyone, whatever your experience level.
