DOWNES Crediton Golf Club Seniors played their September medal from the white on Monday, September 5, which saw a number of players break par Joe Hull scored a superb six under par nett 64 to take the overall victory.
This also gave Hull victory in Division Two by five strokes from Peter Bryan (nett 69) with Paul Dorothy on third place scoring a level par nett 70.
Division One saw Alan Willey take top spot posting a nett 68 beating Mike Palmer (nett 68) into second courtesy of a better back nine holes. John Bundfuss followed in third scoring a nett 70.
Paul Edworthy took victory in latest round of the mid-week stableford on Wednesday, September 7 scoring a fine 41 points. Darrell Pidgeon posted a solid 40 points to finish second with Paul Ezard third with 39.
The ladies played the County Stableford 11 on Thursday, September 8 and winning with a solid 38 points was Sue Barr, which also gave her victory in the Bronze Two Division by five clear points from second placed June Skuse (33 points).
Lyn Parry and June Mitchell came top of their respective Silver and Bronze One Divisions both scoring very respectable 36 points.
Downes’ men competed for the September medal on Saturday, September 10 with any player that had represented the club in a league “A” team being in-line to win the Jordan Cup.
Winner on the day scoring a very impressive best of the day gross 71 nett 66, was Matt Arnold who also scooped the Jordan Cup.
He also took top spot in Division One beating Alan Draper into second (nett 69) with Martin How following on in third (nett 70).
Richard Dyer took top spot in Division Two scoring a fine nett 67, two shots clear of second placed Adrian Cram nett 69 who, in turn, beat Neil Ford (nett 69) into third with a better back nine.
Four players posted nett 71’s in Division Three but top spot was taken by Mark Dafters courtesy of a superior back nine holes. Todd Dove followed in second place with Chris Parker in third.
Sunday, September 11 saw Downes Crediton host its 40th Anniversary Pro-Am sponsored by Molson Coors.
The event attracted some of the top players from across the West Country and there was some very impressive scoring.
In the Professionals Individual Ivybridge Pro Paul Hendriksen took top spot with a tremendous five under par 65 that equalled the course record in the process.
There was a tie for second between Newquay Golf Club’s Chris Gill and China Fleet’s James Ruth both posting very impressive two under par 68’s.
In the team event Professional Paul Turpin and his team consisting of Dave Saget, Lynn Saget and Geoff Hammett from Carlyon Bay took the victory posting a fine 15 under par 87 points.
At the presentation that followed Downes Crediton green staff were praised for the wonderful condition of the golf course.
