CREDITON’S Hayward’s Primary School joined schools from across the country to support this season’s National Schools’ Football Week, which took place from February 4-8.
The campaign, staged in conjunction with the English Schools’ FA PlayStation Schools’ Cup, invited schools to host football-themed events and lessons throughout the week, using the popularity of football to inspire pupils both on and off the pitch.
More than 2,000 schools and 200,000 players took part in this season’s PlayStation Schools’ Cup.
Marking a celebration of schools’ football, the National Schools’ Football Week reflected the spirit of competition, fair play and teamwork, while introducing a “Respect in Football” element.
Hayward’s Primary School organised year group matches, which were held every day of National Schools Football week.
Year groups 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 took part and each class chose a team to represent them.
The matches were organised and officiated by members of the Sports Council.
Although there was a winner in each year group, all teams were scored on demonstrating values that are common in sport and linked to the Hayward’s Hero Values that are a core part of our school.
At the end of the week the team with the most points was awarded the “Spirit of the Games” award in football. An assembly was also held to celebrate the week.
