CREDITON United FC ladies returned to action after a lengthy break on Sunday, January 7.

Many were not expecting the game at Stoke Gabriel to go ahead with so many fixtures being called off.

Crediton started the game well, when an early through ball from Katy Harkness found Molly Tomkins who managed to place the ball past the advancing keeper with a tidy finish to put the visitors one up.

Unfortunately, straight after the kick off the Crediton defenders were still adapting to the heavy pitch conditions and Stoke Gabriel drew level.

Mid way through the half Stoke Gabriel struck again as the Creddy defence failed to clear their lines.

Following a great team move Maddie Taylor levelled the scores as Crediton probably ended the half the stronger side.

The introduction of Sophie Young at half-time gave Crediton another striking option, and they looked the most likely to get the next goal. But a harsh penalty decision looked to give Stoke Gabriel the advantage.

Fortunately Cheyanne Coakley in the Crediton goal managed to force the ball onto the underside of the bar to keep it out.

Shortly after that the home side went close again after a goalmouth melee.

Sophie Young put Crediton back in front with a superb turn and strike.

Shortly afterwards it was Young who grabbed her second from the spot as Molly Tomkins was fouled just inside the penalty box.

The final stages of the game saw some heroic defending from a tiring Crediton side, as Stoke Gabriel pushed to get back into the game, but Crediton still looked dangerous on the counter attack.

Overall a big three points and great team performance, away from home on a difficult surface.

Maddie Taylor was awarded the player of the match award.
