AFTER a nervous start Crediton RFC Ladies team, playing in only their second game, soon got into the swing of things in their first home game against Chard Ladies.
Looking very smart in their new shirts sponsored by Maurice and Sandy from The Three Little Pigs and Lou and Ann Chalmers there were a few nervous faces taking to the Blagdon pitch.
It has been a sharp learning curve for the newly-formed ladies team which contained more than two thirds of completely new players.
You wouldn’t have thought this by the way they played though.
Both sides played really committed rugby with Chard using their big forwards to run at Crediton’s defence which held strong, only being breeched once!
Crediton looked the more effective at ruck time and looking dangerous when they managed to move the ball wide though and only last ditch tackles stopped the Crediton Ladies from winning this closely-fought match.
As it was the game finished in a 5-all draw with Ellen Pearce touching down for Crediton after a period of sustained pressure on the Chard line by the Crediton forwards.
To witness how far this bunch of ladies has developed in such a short time has been amazing and a real credit to their commitment and hard work.
They know there is plenty to work on but they did themselves and the shirt they were wearing proud and are becoming a real team.
The Ladies train every Wednesday evening starting at 7pm and all new players are welcome to join them, experience is not necessary as Sunday’s match against Chard proved.

There are not many clubs, if any, in Devon that can put out four teams on a Saturday, have full junior boys and girls sections and also now a Ladies team!
Next game is away on December 10 at Winscombe.
